Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified

As an avid golfer, I am intimate with the aches and pains that can arise from the golf swing. I researched many golf programs and found that TPI’s approach aligned with my beliefs of body performance and general athleticism. After completing TPI’s level 1 certification, I then completed the TPI Medical Level 2 Certification as a medical provider (PT, OT, CSCS) within the Titleist Performance Institute network.

Whether you are a 17-year-old high school player or an 80-year-old beginner golfer, we recognize a properly functioning body allows a player to swing a golf club in the most efficient way possible. Additionally, TPI has analyzed how physical limitations in a player’s body can adversely affect the golf swing and potentially lead to or magnify an existing injury.

I do not believe in one way to swing a golf club, rather in an infinite number of swing styles. However, I do believe there is one efficient way for every player to swing a club and it is based on what the player can physically do. For example, our 17-year-old and 80-year-old are quite different in flexibility, strength, and recovery.

The most efficient swing is not the same for every golfer because efficiency is unique to their body. To achieve an efficient swing, a golfer must first be screened. This screen involves an assessment of swing mechanics and biomechanics, physical fitness, movement quality, current health, and client history. The golfer’s spine, pelvis, shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles will also be assessed for both mobility and stability. Dysfunctional movement patterns at one or multiple joints are identified as they could lead to faulty swing patterns resulting in different types of golf injuries.

Once this screen is finished, the results are used to create a customized plan unique for that golfer. The plan may include fitness training, physical therapy, correction of faulty biomechanics, nutrition, mental strategy, or all the above. The goal of all treatment is to minimize pain and maximize you golf game so you can enjoy your time on the course.
